While men have always gotten the bad rap about infidelity, recent studies have shown that women are catching up fast. \u00a0Interestingly, women are more likely to lie, and less likely to get caught. \u00a0It seems that women are actually so much better at hiding it. \u00a0Or is it that men are just more clueless about the signs?<\/span><\/p>\n

Some reasons women have given for cheating include:<\/span><\/p>\n

Emotional validation<\/b>: Women often complain about being under-appreciated and under-valued by their partners, and they turn to others for this attention they are not getting at home.<\/span><\/p>\n

To boost self-esteem<\/b>: \u00a0Having an affair is a way to reassure herself that she is desirable, especially if she feels her partner is less attentive to her.<\/span><\/p>\n

To retaliate<\/b>: Like men, some women will have affairs to \u201ceven the score\u201d if she has discovered an infidelity.<\/span><\/p>\n

She is lonely<\/b>: Some women expect their partner to meet all of their needs and they neglect their social and family relationships. \u00a0When the partner does not meet her expectations, she may feel justified to get her needs met elsewhere. <\/span><\/p>\n

She is looking for attention<\/b>: In long term relationships there is a tendency to become complacent and we forget to <\/span>show<\/span><\/i> our love on a regular basis. \u00a0Some women say they just don\u2019t feel heard or understood, and may start having intimate conversations with other people which could lead them into dangerous territory. <\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span>According to Dr. David Holmes, a psychologist at Manchester Metropolitan University, women are having more affairs than ever. \u00a0He says: \u201cThe biggest difference is that women are much better at keeping their affairs secret. If you look at the studies into paternity, even conservative figures show that between eight and 15 per cent of children haven’t been fathered by the man who thinks he’s the biological parent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

So why the sudden rise in women cheaters? Today\u2019s woman usually works outside the home (which puts her in contact with more people), she is more financially independent, our social attitudes toward sexuality have shifted, and all of our electronic devices make it so much easier to connect for intimate encounters.<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to infidelity, probably the most well-known reason both men and women have given is that they are having issues in their relationship. \u00a0Either something is missing, they feel lonely, and they find another person who seems to appreciate them more than the partner at home. \u00a0If you feel that you are missing something important in your relationship, deal with it. \u00a0Go to counselling if necessary, before you take the road of infidelity. \u00a0Because once you go down that path, you may never find your way back.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
